RECENT MEETING

14/2/2019

Kensal Green Streets organised a meeting for local residents and Councillors to give people the opportunity to discuss the proposed changes to traffic arrangements at the junction of the Harrow Road and Furness Road. The expectation was to air different views and assist in responding to the consultation questionnaire not to reach consensus.

On the agenda very briefly was also an update about the licensing of the new Triangle Club (ex Jet Set) and proposed  changes to ward boundaries.

Approx 25 local residents attended as well as Councillor Jumbo Chan.

TRAFFIC CONSULTATION
  • There was agreement from all, that our priority was pedestrian safety. As such the 3 pedestrian crossings and yellow box were very welcome. However all agreed that the time for crossing must be increased to accommodate disabilities, age and the large number of people using the Harrow Road crossing. The crossings should have digital display timers and audio prompting-bleeps.
  • The yellow box is welcomed; however, cameras need to be installed to monitor this closely alongside speeding and the pedestrian crossings and skipping the red lights. Fines need to be strictly implemented.
  • There was a lot of discussion about the new road lane  plans or keeping the existing slip road. A show of hands indicated that there was a slightly larger number of people preferring the slip road to remain with an additional pedestrian crossing.
  • We all agreed that we did not want to attract more traffic in an already congested area. Opinions were divided about how to achieve this. There was concern about air quality particularly in relation to the primary school.
  • There was a suggestion that an additional pedestrian crossing should be installed on Furness Road, near the school gate for children crossing the road.
  • A paper was distributed from Ian Britton of RARA indicating his position and urging residents to respond to the consultation.

TRIANGLE CLUB LICENSING

The deadline for appealing against the licensing committee decision has passed and Brent is not aware of any existing appeal. We will now need to see if the Triangle goes ahead with the restricted hours and continue to be vigilant about any concerns in the future.

WARD BOUNDARIES

Councillor Jumbo summarised the  Boundary Commission's proposals. This is now open to public consultation with an April deadline. Residents were pleased that Kensal Green was being retained in the main, but unsure about the loss of the Purves Road triangle and being divided between Harlesden and Kensal Rise. Councillor Jumbo indicated that they were thinking about counter proposals and we will inform residents when there is more information.
