PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE NHWN has again secured free Public Liability Insurance (PLI) for all Neighbourhood Watch schemes across England and Wales. The policy starts from 1 April and runs to 31 March 2014. The policy covers any scheme registered with an Authority recognised or verified by the Neighbourhood and Home Watch Network so includes all Watches in every London Borough recognised by you and there is no need to register. In the event of a claim, it will be for the Scheme or Association to evidence how they are recognised as a Watch Scheme or Association in line with local policies and procedures or within their constitution. There is no age restriction (upper or lower) placed on the cover. For any activities that cause injury to third parties or damage to third party property, the insurer will cover claims up to £5 million per claim occurring during the insured period. The insurance applies to activities undertaken with your full knowledge, authority and under your control in line with good practice and adhering to all relevant local policies and practices. Erection and maintenance of signs and posters, including whilst erecting such, is covered, providing the lower edge of the sign is not less than 2.1 metres above the footway. Neighbourhood Watch events, street parties and Neighbourhood Watch stands at other people’s events are covered, provided they are not prohibited by any exclusion criteria. Cover extends to other Watch schemes, such as Junior NW and Speed Watch, if incorporated into a NW Scheme or Association and local policies/practices are adhered to. BBC TV PROGRAMME Wall to Wall Television, the TV production company that makes ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ is working on a new programme for BBC One, provisionally called ‘The Gift’, that aims to help people try to make amends for something they have done or express their gratitude to someone who has changed their life. For many people, it is often not possible to do this by themselves – they may have no idea how to track down the stranger who saved their life – or perhaps they can’t find the courage to make an approach to an old friend alone. The Gift aims to help them achieve this. Wall to Wall is currently trying to find people who may need help and has approached LNWA plus various Community Safety Partnerships in an attempt to contact people in the local community who may have had experiences such as these. For more information, go to: http://www.walltowall.co.uk/thegift.aspx
That’s it for this month. As usual, on behalf of LNWA, thank you for your work and support.
