DATES TO BE CONFIRMED ARE:
TUESDAY 17 JUNE 2014 TUESDAY 14 OCTOBER 2014 BE THERE! Dear members & supporters,
Please find below the introduction to each article included in the January 2014 edition of 'Our News' (the NHWN 6 weekly e-newsletter). The full articles can be found inside the newsletter which can be downloaded from our site here: http://www.ourwatch.org.uk/resource_centre/document_library/our_news_january_2014/ This edition includes: Message from the Chair NHWN Chair, Jim Maddan, wishes members a safe New Year and calls on members to encourage people to become involved with Neighbourhood and Home Watch. Jim also urges members to get involved in the 2014 National Neighbourhood and Home Watch Awards. Click here for the full message. Get ahead of the bunch with a one key home Did you know that the average number of keys attached to a house in the UK is eight? Eight keys for eight different locks – a number that can lead to a whole bunch of problems, whether its keeping track of where they all are or even knowing which key fits which lock. Avocet Hardware has a solution that will get rid of any confusion, improve home security and be kind to the lining of your pockets – the ABS one-key house – and what’s more, they are giving NHWN members the exclusive chance to win a full home upgrade. Find out how here. Applications open: National Neighbourhood and Home Watch Awards To celebrate and reward the outstanding work carried out by Neighbourhood and Home Watch (NHW) volunteers across England and Wales, members are invited to take part in our annual National Neighbourhood and Home Watch Awards. Due to take place on 20 June as part of our annual NHW Week celebrations, the awards ceremony will be held in Westminster. Award winners will be invited to attend this prestigious event along with a number of guest speakers and ‘VIPs’. Full information can be found here. A chance to have your say! Recently we’ve been sending out a lot of surveys to Neighbourhood & Home Watch members. We’ve already had a fantastic response to our surveys but if you haven’t already taken part in them it would be greatly appreciated if you could take a few minutes to do so. We value all of our members’ feedback and by providing this to us we are able to improve our quality of service and develop the movement in line with members’ views. To take part, click here. Avoid running into danger One of the most common New Year resolutions is to get fit. So if you’re thinking about running around the streets or jogging through the local park in the mornings or after work, spare a thought for how you can do it safely. Unfortunately, whilst not common, attacks on lone joggers or walkers do happen so it’s advisable to take extra care. Ensure you stay safe by reading our advice here. Be cyber streetwise! A new campaign to change the way people protect themselves while shopping or banking online in order to avoid falling victim to cyber criminals has been launched by the government. The launch of the campaign is part of the government’s National Cyber Security Programme and it aims to give us all some essential tips to improve our performance online and help keep important stuff safe. Read more here. The National Community Safety Network The National Community Safety Network (NCSN) is a practitioner led organisation supporting those involved in promoting community safety/crime reduction throughout the United Kingdom. It was established in 1995 as a small group of like-minded professionals meeting to provide support for the new role of “community safety officer” and has now grown to represent 500 organisations within the statutory, voluntary and private sectors. Read more about NCSNhere. There is a website called https://www.freecycle.org/ .
if anyone has ANY unwanted items that are potentially useful to others they can add this on and people collect free of charge. Also it can be good if people need stuff as you can add a 'wanted' post. Everything from childrens clothes, furniture, general household stuff. HELP TO FIGHT DUMPING! |
